I just learned that a new Christmas stamp featuring the Madonna and Child is set to be released by the US Postal Service October 20. Did you know that every two years the USPS issues a new Christmas stamp showing the Blessed Mother and baby Jesus? I feel a bit ashamed that I never noticed there was a pattern to the stamps. I just always enjoy seeing them.
This year the image selected is of an 18th-century Peruvian painting of Our Lady of Guapulo. The painting of a wood carving hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I think it looks beautiful and it’s such a simple way to evangelize. If you get a letter from me this season, check out the stamp: you know which one I’ll be using.
